Shawmut’s Rhode Island office was named a 2021 Best Place to Work in the state by Providence Business News (PBN), marking the eleventh time we’ve been honored by PBN. The statewide survey and awards program identify and recognize the best places of employment in Rhode Island that continue to benefit the state's economy, workforce, and community.

Senior Director of Rhode Island/Project Executive Chris Maury spoke with PBN on how Shawmut’s leading with a culture focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion and delivering a better building experience for our partners.

How would you describe the culture of your workplace? Our people are the key element of what makes Shawmut a great place to work. Every employee has a vested interest in the success of the company and the success of our clients’ projects, as we are all employee owners.

What role do diversity and inclusion play in your hiring and promotion decisions? We work to create an inclusive environment where everyone reaches their fullest potential, with a Diversity Leadership Council driving our journey toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.

How do you support community service work by your employees? With the goal of expanding and diversifying the talent pipeline within the construction and engineering industries, Shawmut launched the Shawmut Scholars program with Roger Williams University … providing three RWU students with four-year scholarship support, paid internships at Shawmut, career and professional development, and an additional stipend for housing and transportation costs.
