It has been a busy year so far at Shawmut—we have been involved with countless organizations and events, and have also turned over some pretty impressive projects! Before we step into a season full of family, food, and lots of shopping, here is just a fraction of what we’ve been up to:
We start off with the completion of the Rebuilding Together headquarters in New York City. Rebuilding Together is a non-profit organization that rehabilitates homes and revitalizes communities to make them safe and healthy. Les Hiscoe, CEO at Shawmut, added “as a Rebuilding Together NYC board member, I am honored Shawmut was able to be part of this special project. Community involvement is a large part of our company culture, and working with an organization such as RT NYC that rebuilds NYC neighborhoods is a natural fit for our team to support.” Shawmut donated construction management services which enabled the new 4,400-square-foot building.
Also in New York, we turned over the Tom Ford store on Madison Avenue, which is just a few blocks away from the original store that Shawmut built back in 2004. The new flagship features a double-height entry vestibule with mirrored ceilings, a high glass lacquer grand spiral staircase lit from below, and a storefront with 24k gold leaf awnings, among other breathtaking elements.
Traveling south, Shawmut was honored to have won our first ground-up project in Miami—the 16,700-square-foot Power Design District building. Now, after the successful completion of the core and shell, Shawmut is working with major kitchen appliance brand Sub-Zero & Wolf to fit-out their brand-new second floor and rooftop showroom.
On the West Coast, Shawmut worked with French fashion house Balmain on a new retail store inspired by the vacation home of the owner, Pierre Balmain. The space features Mediterranean décor, vaulted ceilings, black marble flooring, and a courtyard that gives off a Southern European residential feel. Los Angeles also became home to two new Reformation boutiques—at Platform LA and on Melrose Avenue. The eco-chic label, and first-time client, offers an experiential shopping experience with touchscreens to direct you to your fitting room and customizable music and lighting once you get there.
This August marked the tenth straight year Shawmut has participated in the Pan-Mass Challenge. This year, Team Shawmut has raised over $220,000 and counting, accumulating over one million dollars in total fundraising. For the sixth straight year the money raised directly supported the research being conducted by Dana-Farber’s Dr. Christopher Sweeney, who also rode with Team Shawmut for the fourth year. The annual fundraising has enabled Dr. Sweeney to create a unique database of cancer specimen that allows his team to find the key causes of incurable cancer, and test a new drug designed to make standard therapies more effective.
This October marked a new beginning for Shawmut: we officially opened our new Chicago office! CEO Les Hiscoe commented, “after 20 years of operating in Chicago and steadily increasing client demand, we are thrilled to officially put feet on the ground and better serve this rapidly evolving and architecturally significant city.”
After another busy year of projects and charitable events, we’re certainly looking forward to the year ahead.
