The Luxury Homes team’s ground-up recording studio project won Platinum in the Residential Specialty category for the 2019 Pro Remodeler Design Awards. The award recognizes projects that demonstrate a high level of quality, design expertise, problem-solving, and creativity.
This recording studio was designed to complement an existing glass and limestone modern residence. The 2,355-square-foot studio was built into the side of an existing slope to achieve two goals: 1) retain the privacy of the home and its exterior gardens from the daily routine of the studio and 2) provide total sound privacy to the site.
The studio includes an expansive living room, control room, subterranean audio editing suite, and client entry and amenity areas. The interior design was intended to provide a background of comfort and warmth for long working hours, using a rich and natural material palette including American black walnut, fabrics, and carefully designed board form exposed concrete walls—both on the interior and exterior. The highlight of the space is a custom 16’x 25’ water feature wall.
To provide sound control, the team installed specialty acoustical fabric wall and ceiling panels. The team collaborated to overcome the challenges associated with working in a high-profile neighborhood and with steep terrain surrounding the property to complete the job in 18 weeks.
